machete or khukri - working tool

I think a long light machete would be the best option for clearing brambles and nettles. Billhooks and kukris are better suited to wood chopping imho they also lack the reach of a long machete so you may find yourself stopping over a fair bit which will prove uncomfortable after a while. For...

    Production Woodlore

The same idea has wandered into my head a couple of times too. I think if frosts were to construct a woodlore clone out of there standard plastic materials and own steel it would be hit provided the price was right, kind of a budget woodlore I know I’d buy one.

    Grohmann

Looking at their site they seem to have some other knives that are remarkably similar to those made by other companies.I won't say copy perhaps cold steel came to some sort agreement with the oridginal manufactures. For example the original okapi knife http://ragweedforge.com/okapi.jpg...

    What knife and why?

I either carry a frosts mora or more recently the helle fjellkniven. T The helle's handle is very comfortable perhaps not perfect but none the less very good. The knife blade is pretty good too very similar size & shape to the standard green handled Mora. Now...

    leuku vs gransfors mini

I’ve been reading a lot of positive reports on leukus those who have one really do seem enthused with them .I’m sorely tempted to buy myself one for christmas however since I have a gb mini I can't help thinking if its worth it. How do these two tools compare do they essentially do the same...

    Suvival situation knife sharpening

I have found rubbed two pieces of sandstone together to make a kind of powder add saliva and it becomes a kind of paste you can then apply it to a stick your leg whatever. It seems to work better than using the just using stone.

Debate: Big cats, wolves & Wild boar

I like the idea but in practice I don’t think it would work, people in the uk are too used to a countryside where there are no wild animals that could potentially harm them. I just can’t see people respecting the animals and keeping their distance. Maybe I’m being overly cynical but I think...

    Caly 3

I think the majority of people here used fixed blades but you could try asking the question or doing a search over british blades http://www.britishblades.com/forums/

    tom brown tracker ??????

The one handed opening hole on spyderco knives was a pretty good idea, can’t think of anything major that could have been done years ago.

    F1

I reprofiled the edge on mine to a thinner convex angle too ,wish the spine wasn't so thick though.

    F1

Don't forget that the f1 has a small secondary bevel on top of the convex grind.

    Axe sharpening

jimbo if I remember rightly mine only cost 3 quid or thereabouts,it was certainly very cheap so I would imagine it was chinese made.

    Axe sharpening

I believe I had almost the exact same axe from hyper value the only difference is the coulor of the axe head yours is blue mine was black. The steel on mine was very hard (but brittle) 60 rockwell perhaps certainly harder than my gransfors and a kukri. I don't have the axe anymore but I...

    Groups or Solo...

solo for me too.(unless you count the dog).I just like to be on my own sometimes, I feel i can concentrate far better at whatever I'm doing when on my own

    Just got my first axe

Sounds like the steel is on the softer side thats all ,although my gransfors bent and chipped a little when I hit a stone. When you say the edge went flat do you mean dull.

A Wright & sons Ltd copy of a woodlore! any good?

In the pic theres a unsharpened part between the handle and where the bevel starts have you found this to be a problem when using the knife? I just thought it might get in the way.
