Two huge ceps and a blusher

Out all day yesterday in the woods enjoying my birthday and fossicking about (as you do). Came across two huge ceps and later on, a pristine fresh blusher. Rounded the day off by the sea, harvesting salsify, seakale leaves and sea beet. A brilliant day! :D Will post some pics later.

    Google books facility

I'm not sure which thread is best to put this in so mods please move it if you think it would be better elsewhere. Anyway, I have to spread the word about this really great facility which I've just been playing with. It's an on-line repository of scanned, readable & searchable...

    Pendulous Sedge - Carex Pendula

OK, so I have a fair quantity of seed here that I've just harvested and after it's been checked for Ergot, I'll probably lightly roast the grain a little before de-hulling and winnowing etc. I'd like to try it out in a seed mix and have a few other ideas of my own but I can't find any useful...

Who's up for a foraging stroll by the Medway?

That's it..... I've been going stir crazy on account of the weather and missing the last Littlehall meet, so today we went down by the River and had a little wander with basket in hand. Returned with Seabeet, Samphire, Wall Rocket, Halbard Orache, Common Orache, Sea Purslane (with the...

Plants for a Future Database in trouble?

Sorry for posting & apologies if references to other forums are a no-no here but this is an important message that I really want people to hear. I don't know how many other people are aware of this but the Plants for a Future Database appears to be in serious difficulties. I'd noticed that...

    Something for the kids?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but our daughter is really into bushcraft and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a group specifically aimed at kids that meets regularly. We do courses & go to the Kent meets and love 'em, but it'd be nice for her to be learning stuff alongside people her...

    Winter foraging on an estury

Although I'd dearly love to move to somewhere a bit more rural, I have come to recognise the diversity of habitats we have at our disposal locally and one of these is the esturies of the Medway and Thames. At the end of the summer I sampled our local marsh samphire and also experimented with...

    Elderberries

Anyone got any definitive thoughts on the toxicity of raw elderberries? What do you do (if anything) to process them for eating? I'm very familiar with them myself, and only tend to use them cooked - but I'd like some thoughts from other people.
