    Where in South Dartmoor?

So we're planning a little trip to Cornwall with a stop over at Dartmoor. The plan is to travel from around Torquay/Dartmouth, wild camp at Dartmoor then head off Westwards the next day. Does anyone know any good spot in South Dartmoor to camp? Maybe up to an hours walk from somewhere we...

    Pennsylvania weekend camp

That knife looks better and better everytime I see it. Good to hear it performs well! Nice cordage skills by the way :p

    Tesco Self-inflating mattress.

I've got the green tesco self-inflating mattress. It's good size and price. The downsides are that it's a bit heavy (around 1 kg I think but might be wrong) and perhaps thin for a self inflator. I've never had another self-inflating mattress before but I find that I have to give it a few strong...

    superglue

Heard the original purpose of superglue was actually to close wounds quickly during the Vietnam war. They only realised that it was good for other things after. Apparently it saved quite a lot of people because it seals the wound quickly and reduces the chance of blood loss. However it left...

    Travelling Asia?

I've travelled around Indochina (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos) and other parts of South East Asia (Singapore, Indonesia). Mozzy repelent, water purification tablets, tummyache meds are basic provisions. Around south-east asia, you can get a very good meal for £1-3 on the streets to small...

    New tarp needed, advice please.

Seems like everyone agrees on the DD tarp. Slightly off-tangent but does anyone know if the green 3x3m tarp is available anywhere? Or when DD will re-stock?

I saw this yesterday. Got to say I'm convinced with Sir Ray's thorough explanation of the benefits of slow-release deet. I need a box of this stuff now!

    Packing Your Tarp

If you set up your tarp on a ridge line, uncle Ray's method seems pretty handy. Easy to set up and all. But then having it in a snakeskin like a hammock may be pretty handy and compact too. I'm a ground dweller so I fold and stuff depending on my mood

    Matting to sit woodburner on

I agree with the canvas idea. But having a woodburner in a tent seems a bit dangerous.. Perhaps a pie dish (or two) with a fire retardant canvas under. I think the backpacking light people use a welding mat. Apparently available in DIY stores.

    EDC Blog

I've been following that for a while too. Most of them are really interesting but some of them seem to have huge pockets indeed.. And there must be a lot of cops and secret agents (wannabes) :P

Thanks for sharing! Interesting anecdote about the vineyard. The weather looked pretty sunny where you were.
