I've just read in the "Countryman" that tonights full moon is the hunters moon does anyone know why it is called that?
I used to know an old blind Iroquois, and this is what I remember of what he told me on that subject: January is the Ice moon, February is the Hunger moon, March = Wind, April = Rain, May = Planting, June = Green, August = Grass turns brown, October = Harvest, November = hunting. He told me that November is the best moon for hunting because of the rut and the cold temps, so meat can be put by for winter. Wish I could remember July, September and December.
I do like old saying - some times they can give a good reference point, For me the grass is still growing and its to wet to cut...
