guards on knives ?

yeah, just enough to stop your finger is ideal. if i where fishing i would want somthing with a guard and high friction grip.

Yet ironically the one least likely to have a guard is a filleting knife.

...I am not a fan of the double lugged guards commonly seen on military knives but a smaller single forefinger guard can look nice...

Unfortunately the ones with just a small forefinger grip are the most evil looking to me. They are incredibly similar to the WWII Nazi paratrooper knives (not all but many of them anyway)
