I have just finished my fifth bow, made of ash. I would like to dye the bow a darker colour, does anyone know of any suitable dye / stains i could use on the bow?

I have seen Colron wood dye in b&q but not sure if this would be suitable?

I usually oil my bows with linseed oil - can i stain the bow and then oil over the top? Or should i do this visa versa??

thanks

Stain first then oil over the top or the stain wont sink in. I have used various things in the past, leather stain, off the shelf stains mainly water based.
Ash will soak up stain very well so you may want a few coats. With any stain make sure you remove all tool marks even the smallest ones or they will show up twice as much after stain. It will also make the growth rings more defined.
