I was googling Dick Proenekke, and having a read about his life, and learnt from this Wiki entry, that there should be an
'Alone in the Wilderness' part 3 coming out at some future date!

Something to look forward to.

In 2011 a sequel was produced after it was discovered that Proenneke had shot enough footage for at least two more programs.
Alone in the Wilderness: Part 2 premiered on December 2, 2011. A premiere date for Part 3 has yet to be announced.

Here's the man living the dream.

I think my favorite documentary of all time. :)

One year in the life of a family of reindeer herders in Finnish Lapland. A study of hard work, hard earned leisure, and an intricate bond between man and nature.

Happy People: A Year in the Taiga

Documentary about villagers who live deep in the Taiga wilderness in Russia. Really great film. It's on Netflix.

Another vote for Happy people. From Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man and many others)

Lots of axe work,
Makes his own skis and pine tar,
Beautifully shot and has an underlying message from the sable hunters - preserve the wilderness and hunt in moderation for the good of all.
Trap - making
Cabin maintenance.

Highly recommended.
