    Amadou preparation in saltpetre, problem

    I have some amadou, waiting for preparation. I also have saltpetre (KNO3) to soak in, but don't know the exact proportion.     Cattail hand drill

    Who did hand drill with cattail spindle? I'm having some difficulty with cattail (Typha, Reedmace). Could someone post some info? -- How do you gather and prepare the spindle? -- What diameter works best? -- Some tried and proven fire boards (woods) that work with these stalks? Thanks

    Improvement to the basic thumb loops

    I've make yesterday this bearing block for my hand drill kit. I use it when i have short spindle ( must learn floating hands technique, but i'm too lazy ;) ) The wood is hard (Oak - Quercus petraea) Nice ember :)
