Anyone know where to buy Lundhag boots in the UK.

No idea if there are any UK stockists, but I would say that trying on before you buy IS essential with Lundhags. The size guide on their site was a size off (too small) when I came to trying pairs on, and different models of the same size fitted while others didn't. It also helps to try on using...

Waxing an old Fjallraven Thin jacket

Quite honestly I wouldn't bother. I would have thought the clock would have run out on Fjällräven's G1000 long ago with the vast choice of outdoor clothing on the market that actually is wind + waterproof. Rubbing on their Greenland wax and ironing it in is like something from the 70's (though...

    my memory is failing me

Lädersmorning Its an old fashioned treatment. Several companies make their own version including: Trapperns, Nygammal by Enokssons, Jörn and Lundhags. They usually contain some kind of animal fat (bear, badger etc) and pine tar oil. Wilma's make mozzy repellants which smell similar.

    Altberg Warrior Original

I've had the Lowa Mountain GTX which I thought was an excellent (if somewhat heavy) boot. I think Lowa make 3 models which are basically the same boot with different linings: The Lowa GTX of course has a Gore-Tex lining. The Patrol has a Cambrelle (quick drying) lining. The Supercamp is leather...

    surplus woolpower?

On this site under 'Kläder' and then 'Jackor och Tröjor' you should find a version of the M90 Värmetröja: http://www.billingedalen.se/ If you are going to get the modern Woolpower full zip, I would from experience recommend paying the extra for the 600g.

Lundhags boot availability, is it seasonal?

It's a seasonal thing - I'm sure they'll be back on their website come next winter. I have several pairs of Lundhags and wouldn't really recommend their winter-type boots anyway. What they are best at is the old-fashioned shell-type boot that one can wear with extra socks. I have an old model...

    Best Proofing for Leather Boots?

Thanks for the replies blacktimberwolf swung me in the direction of Sno-Seal with his observations and the boots have duly received their coating. I still found it a fag to apply, but its an annual thing and when I bring them out again next Autumn I'll probably top-up with the Prelle stuff or...

    Best Proofing for Leather Boots?

Over the last couple of days I’ve been giving my winter boots their annual service before putting them into storage. I prefer unlined leather boots and like to give them the best possible treatments to maximize water repellency and prolong life. I start by washing all the surface dirt off and...

Anybody got some Filson tin cloth trousers ?

I have a pair. Tough as you like, but being waxed cotton I found them a bit sweaty for UK temperatures.

Oslo city centre, worth a visit?

I remember Olso as an attractive city but not exactly cheap. I don't eat McBurgers but if cash is an issue you can often find whole grilled chickens in supermarkets at a reasonable price - that was my old stand-by on Scandinavian travels. If cash is not an issue you could take a roughly 20min...

    Seasoning Cast Iron (pic heavy)

I successfully re-furbished an ancient cast iron 'pannkakslagg' which is a special Swedish frying pan for pancakes. There were years of built-up crud around the outside. I left it in a plastic bucket of caustic soda for a week and it all lifted off quite easily with a bit of wire wool scrubbing...

Winter (Almost Arctic) Clothing Advice Needed!

If funds are tight I'd forget the Hestra route - quality though they are. I washed up in Sweden for a couple of freezing Winters (not this one - yet!) with temperatures similar to those you mention with a pair of pricey Hestra Guide (or Fält) gloves. They are OK but have lain unused since I...

    Jörnkängan

I have a pair of the Anti-Freeze which I picked up at Jörn Jensen in Lilleström, Norway. They run pretty much true to size and won't shrink which can happen to Lundhags. Although enormous the boots are incredibly lightweight and the quality is fantastic - I would say better than Lundhags...

    Arktis Arctic Shirt

I was once unfortunate enough to live within rifle shot distance of Silverman's, but I think I got it from an outfit called Lansdale who don't seem to do them anymore. Not sure on that - it was a while ago, looks like Silverman's only do them in military green. As to the sizing, mine is an XL. I...

    Arktis Arctic Shirt

I have a black Arktis Antarctica D190 shirt that is about 6 years old now. It was made in England of 70% Merino wool, 20% Polyester and 10% Nylon, washable at 60deg. I remember at the time I got it they did a virtually identical shirt that featured Nomex fire-retardant fabric along with the 70%...

    Knife id?

Firstly, apologies for being unable to upload pics of the knife which would have made things a bit easier (and perhaps more interesting). Anyway - I picked up a strange looking bushcraft/outdoor knife over here in Sweden on the cheap. The makers mark looks to be the letter S inside a circle...

    Lundhags Professional Advice

Hej Lundhags! Did you by chance get mixed up in your reply to this thread with the info that Scandinavians choose the Optis whereas the rest of the world prefer...the Optis? Also on the Lundhags site the two types of last are named Opti and Normal - not Standard. I live over here (Sweden)...

    Lundhags Professional Advice

I've a couple of pairs ('Forester' which is an older model like 'Scout' and also a winter pair called Siberia). I like my Forester a lot and rate them highly. This is an unlined 'shell' type boot which is what Lundhags started out making. I was fortunate enough to try on various models and...

    best charity shop purchases

I'm glad I didn't mention the reindeer skin/wool lined Sami boots (£5) the Swedish army snowshoe overboots (£7) the Frosts Mora in the style of a Canadian Belt Knife full tang rosewood handle (£8) or the FM Mattessons 11.5" 50 year old Mora in next to mint nick for £1. I think I'd better stop...

    best charity shop purchases

I've picked up many a bargain from Swedish loppisar/second hand stores, many of which are run by church organizations. My top picks are 2 pairs of new Ullfrotté long johns - one a 200g the other 400g for £3.50 each but best of all were two pairs of Tegsnäs Rajd wooden forest skis. One pair was...
