I bought myself a Dremel so I could make hobo stoves (because lets be honest, you can never have enough!) but it's a bit light on instructions. What accessory should I be using to remove sections of metal from Ikea style cutlery drainers? I tried various ones that came with it and I wore through them at a remarkable rate.

got to http://www.dremel.co.uk/ then click accessories fill out the bit at the top that says Find the right accessories for your project! with 'cutting' 'steel' then hit the arrow and it'll show you the cut off wheels you need. It will eat them at a fair old rate.

Cheers,

Alan

Have a look at http://mungobah.blogspot.com/2009/02/bushcraft-hobo-wood-stove.html

I used the flat disc that came with Dremel I bought (the least expensive model, so I figure the disc will come with any model you purchase) to cut the door out of the IKEA cutlery drainer.

I have found the packet of little brown cutting wheels that came with it orginally useless to dangerous as they shatter very easily. However a friend borrowed my dremel and bought a speed click SC456 wheel and that cuts metal without much complaint.

Those brown cutting wheels are fine, as long as you wear some protective glasses. Just push back the cut metal so to not interfere and snag the disc. You'll get through a few on a tin.

Sorry Jonnno but your words (because lets be honest, you can never have enough!)
just made me think of this song by Eddie Vedder : Society No Disrespect was ment and i hope none will be taken. we all have fallen into this trap at some time, Me as well am no better but this song made me think. Again No Disrespect was ment and i hope none will be taken.
Eddie Vedder : Society

It's a mystery to me
we have a greed
with which we have agreed

You think you have to want
more than you need
until you have it all you won't be free

society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me

When you want more than you have
you think you need
and when you think more than you want
your thoughts begin to bleed

I think I need to find a bigger place
'cos when you have more than you think
you need more space

society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

there's those thinking more or less less is more
but if less is more how you're keeping score?
Means for every point you make
your level drops
kinda like its starting from the top
you can't do that...

society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

society, have mercy on me
I hope you're not angry if I disagree
society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

Heh? I don't understand what this has to do with a Dremel tool and a Hobo Stove... or am I missing something?

YES:) Read the very first sentence that bigwolfy wrote where he explains why he is posting it and at the same time apologises for going off-topic:

I know this does not answer your question re the dremmel drill, but I managed to file out the square by just using a small craft file going from hole to hole and managed it in no time at all. It was one of the ones you find in packs of assorted shapes, square, half -round,flat and round, that you find on marketstalls, they are cheap and expendible. May be worth a try and would save your dremmel tools for some other craft work.

you want the brown cut off wheels, i think they're brown, but they're little abrasive wheels about 20-25mm across. They wear out quick but they'll get the job done.

to be honest, if i was doing it i'd probbably just use a junior hacksaw and a file.

Seems I was using the right wheels I just didn't expect them to wear out so quickly. Think I'll experiment some more.

Cheers
