I've no idea why everybody has to complicate things. Go out and try things out, you'll know it hasn't worked when you get the trots. How about prepping stuff at home before you go out? The only thing you'd need to use a knife for meat-wise is if you catch your food out there and it is a rabbit or a deer or a fish. And then you only need the knife to gut things and maybe to star when you take the skin off, so it isn't gonna get filthy. Give it a bit of a wipe with some moss and dunk it in hot water, or you could carry a bottle of domestos and a dish washer. What is it to be?!

In order to sterilise (pasteurize) in the food industry the food is heated to 70 degrees celisus for 30 seconds so you don't need a long time in the embers. The flame is between 400 and 500 degrees so it doesn't take long..
