Hello lads, lasses.

I'm after a small adze, so if anyone has one in good condition that they want to part with, I have the cash waiting. I've been looking at new as well, so if there's a maker with one to sell please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

what sort of adze are you after? I have a couple but not a bowl carving one, if that is what you are looking for? I can make one for you of course ;) Though it will be a couple of months until I can have it ready

Dave, I'm kind of itching to get one at the moment. Bowl carving type really. I'm not sure I could wait that long, and I've been mulling over my option's for a long while now. I know yours to be amongst the highest quality out there, and personally I'd rather buy from a British maker, rather than a British retailer selling an import. I did have my eye on the Svante Djarv Mini Adze, but they won't ship direct to me, they referred me to a few uk retailers, which kind of put me off a bit. So, I think I've made up my mind to buy from a uk artisan. If I don't have any luck with a used one, I'll buy new, and have to wait like a spoilt child for it. ;-)

Duncan, thanks for the reply. I like that, very nice. However, I'm looking for more weight in the adze at the moment. That's not to say that I won't consider one of your creations at a later stage in my journey. How much?

Stew, cheers for the info. I'll check it out, but, fakebook you say? I shan't go there, tis a den of iniquity..
I guess he has a normal webpage to peruse though, I'll look for that instead.

Dano, that's a great piece of art, indeed. I love all the iron, bronze age tools.

Picked it up in Indo a couple of years back, no idea how old, apparently they were still being used up until 100 years ago in some places around there, the head of this doesn't look used although it could have been reworked, the shaft certainly looks old and used, the lashing is nice but some twit has used what looks like some type of varnish on it, kind of like shellac I think, probably the guy who sold it to me, I did think about undoing it an re-wrapping on the reverse but haven't got around to it, will probably leave it as is because I don't know how old it is and don't want to spoil it, I thought if would look good on the wall but as I don't have a wall and it's sitting in a box alongside all my other boxes which get shipped from place to place, I would think about selling it to someone who would appreciate it. I am not out to make a profit just as long as it goes to a good home, trouble is I am in Kuwait and the post don't work (it tickles me that they purchased so many Royal Mail shares when their own operation is one of the worst in the world....) so if anyone is interested PM me and I can bring it back to the Uk on my next visit

Sorry to hijack the thread but it did say looking for an adze...
