What do you mean? Food manufacturers use Gluten as an food additive.
To thicken, to bulk up.....For example, store bought frozen hamburgers can contain gluten. It is used as a filler of as a ‘glue’.
6 -7 years of farting like an elephant with stomach ache, and risking possible death from a burst Diverticulae if wrong food is eaten is a good incentive to delve into the problem too.
Agai, nope. The fillers are just whatever cheap starches are readily available and relatively tasteless on their own. Although many are glutinous he glutenn isn’t the purpose. It’s simply an additional element they most producers don’t care whether it’s there or not. At least they don’t care unless they’re trying to make a gluten free product.

In the uk there is a "may contain...." phrase which does include gluten. Whether or not a requirement and always used I don't know.

I have given up trying to find my ibs triggers. Like I did for migraine triggers. Too many false positives. Like pasta, I went through a spell of pasta seeming like it was a trigger. Then it stopped triggering it.
My daughter has a similar problem with her crohns triggers. They fluctuate.

Yes, of course! I think you misunderstand this leftie-leftie?
As that is exactly what I wrote?

My point was that Gluten is used as an additive, and is usually included in the Ingredient list. Some countries have a law where known allergens have to be clearly stated and highlighted on that list.
Same with restaurants in those countries.

I have noticed that many US and Canadian products have more cryptic Ingredients lists. Not many restaurants there write which allergens are in the food either.
I just ask and hope the servers are interested in their job and know.

I am an omnivore (with some exemptions ).

I do not like a Turkey for example.
( animal, not country)
Edit: well, we seem to have a new grouping these days.
A ‘Flexitarian’

I guess that is what I am, as I love Crepes, Nutella, Cakes, Fruit Pies, and Wasa Rye crackers?

Janne, the Righty-Tighty Flexitarian?

Ha!

No. I understood your comment. You say they’re adding “gluten.” They aren’t. Rather they’re adding things that often “contain” gluten. There’s a vast difference. The one suggests that gluten is the reason for adding it; the other acknowledges that gluten is just an accident of the real reason fillers are added.

What is added to things like sausages and burgers is rusk, used as a binder and made from wheat and a couple of other things which I've forgotten.
It is also used a lot in packet sauce and soup mixes to thicken the ingredients. It's a cheap and easy way to make the recipe work.
I always check even tins of soup for gluten in any form.
Specialised gluten free soup £1.99 a tin. Normal soup can be about 50p. It's cheaper and safer to make my own but I do keep a few tins carefully scrutinised for lazy or poorly days..

Got you, Santa.
No, I did not mean they add Gluten because they want specifically to add Gluten, they add thickeners that more than often are Gluten based.
Cheap, work well.

Another, more expensive thickener is Agar Agar, plus Gelatine. And of course the sea weed derivative Carragean and Alginates.

Nobody knows why the Gluten intolerance/allergy exists and is becoming more common.

Maybe the reason is that our food has additives of chemically changed compounds containing Gluten?

The sad part is those “specialized” gluten free soups didn’t even change their recipe in many cases. They just moved the production line to a gluten free facility while doing already planned upgrades. Minimal cost and now they can charge premium prices.

Ref opening remarks.....................
Some of these protesters it's probably the first time they have been out without their Mommas to look after them, I did hear that a few of them have been on adventures before, apparently some of them once walked to school when the 4x4 was in for service, and they demanded Blue Peter badges for doing it.
As for Vegan, vegetarians etc, I personally only eat something that can put it's head over a fence.

No doubt some of them had a first outing from the Council Estate!
I guess they went back home and demanded more benefits, having saved the World?

You never eat Crepes and Pancakes? Beans in toast?
A Plowmans with a bit of cheese??

yes we all did, but then we were young, and we not only had respect for others, we had to earn respect from others.

that is entirely your opinion. My one is that if someone is doing something that does not directly involve my daily or future wellbeing, then I leave it alone. If it does affect me, then I deal with it. I do not know any of these people protesting, so I can offer no opinions on there background, heritage or parentage. As what is becoming patently obvious with this type of post, it is instigated with politicized undertones, which out of respect for the forum I shall not engage in any further. If you wish further communication with me, in a sensible and convivial manner, then do so. Otherwise don't bother. :)

I guess you do not expect Council Estate folks to make the effort and do something that resembles an activity?
They might miss in the Benefits payout....

It was the people on benefits and from Council estates that protested and got the "Poll Tax" scrapped,
And they at least protested about something the Government could change, I don't see what this Government can do about climate change, that would have any effect, without the other countries of the World doing the same.
