I've tried a few times and failed because I think it's been contaminated by the animal fur and probably a few man made fibres as well.

Never tried using it as an alternative for cotton wool and vaseline though so that might work instead. :dunno:

Ah, not sure it was all cotton as SWMBO puts all the washing into the drier, could be a mix so that would make it difficult, Mesquite the c/wool and vaseline will only work for a Ferro Rod I think, not so sure about flint & steel.

Charred cotton wool works for flint and steel. To prep it, just light it and stamp it out. Then spark on the charred bit.
