Cherry Tree Resin

Is there a use for the stuff...can it be used like pine resin? (fires/glue/chewing)

the tree at my folks is fairly well scarred/decaying in places and drips the stuff often, so if it's got a use i might collect it.

actually its a gum not a resin, resins are not soluble in water
gum comes from broadleaves and conifers have resin

The gum can carry a fungal infection so clean implements after.

I chewing gum is supposedly made from it. Don't know how. i have made chinese ink sticks with it. There is a couple of threads on it with other ideas.
