Another ID Question

Stumbled over this, this afternoon, anyone know who owns it.

The nest was built on a fallen tree trunk only six inches off the ground

Further info, the nest was fairly exposed (I nearly stood on it) in larch woodland, Here's a close up of the eggs,

They're about 25mm long (the coin in other pic is a 50p) and heavily speckled.

From the size and colouring - I think they are Blackbird.

Dunnock is much smaller and plain blue.

Is that sawdust around the nest?

I tend to keep away from any nests so not to disturb the birds, so I am not up on egg ID, but after a quick google, I would agree with blackbirds... Tis an unusual place for them to nest though, they normally like to nest in plenty of cover and off the ground...

Yes it is sawdust, I was cutting firewood and didn't spot the nest until I turned round and took my helmet/visor off.

Went sneaking up on the nest today and took this through a long lens, glad I didn't put the bird off the other day although I wouldn't give much for their chances as the nest is only a few yards from an active badger sett.

I really like that shot in post #9 Staghound. It's actually a pity you have posted it here as the Countryfile photo comp this year is on animals in action and although it appears she is just sitting she is actually doing quite a bit by turning the eggs, watching for predators, ensuring that all the eggs are equally heated among I'm sure many other jobs.
