Looks like a lump of boitroidal haematite. They are heavy with a shiny appearance on the outside. Try scraping it on something it should leave a red streak.
Leds do degrade over time usually only when they are being used. It is temperature that usually causes the degradation. If you over drive an led then its brightness drops off more quickly with time. If the torch has not been used then I would not expect the brightness to have changed much...
I would not go for buying a large drive. If it fails you lose all your data. Two 500 G drives are a better idea than 1 1TB drive.
Scarey figures from Google who use huge numbers of off the shelf drives in their data centres. 1.6% of drives fail in the first year. This figure rises to 8% after 3...
I have heard of people using biological washing powder to clean bones. I haven't tried it myself but it is probably less smelly than waiting for it to rot.
This is a cheat! Some where in the block is a battery attached to the two nails. If you notice when he is testing the voltage from the magnet to the nail the magnet is actually touching the other nail. People have been trying for hundreds of years to produce a perpetual motion machine using...
Easy way to drop 1.4 volts is just to put two silicon diodes in series. Each diode drops about 0.7 volts. Don't need to calculate current or anything. If you use something like a 1N4001 they can carry about 1A. If you need more current just use a bigger diode. The diodes go in series with the lead.
I think the orbs are reflections of the moon. Was it a full moon? What direction was the wind blowing? I am guessing it was relatively still. I dont know what the moon was reflecting on maybe water vapour but it wouldnt need to be spherical, just a patch of water drops like a mini rainbow
