CELOX is now carried by some ambulance services and I have heard very good reports. Never used it in anger myself, but I have spoken to those who have and they say very good stuff. Still a bit expensive if you have to buy it yourself, but cheaper then death or HemCon!
Hope this helps
If you have a nice GP they should do it for you FOC - especially if you explain exactly why you want it.
You are more likely to come into contact with Hep B than HIV, so is a good idea. Anyone who does anything clinical with the NHS gets the jab, and I think even porters do as they still have...
There are a lot of old wives' tales saying that you should put one thing or another in a wound. As a general rule of thumb, putting anything in a wound is a bad idea as anything can cause a bad reaction (burn, allergy, infection, etc.) or can just prove to be a real pain in the rear when you get...
Thanks Dave.
A lovely evening, in a lovely venue, with some lovely people.
Can't wait for the next one - even if it is just meeting up in a pub, still nice to catch up with like minded folk.
Thanks again.
Pain relief, splint it as best you can, get out, get help, cry.
Read as much as you can from a variety of sources. Everyone has their own tips, tricks and ways of working. But best to take a good course. You might also find this handy...
Like any bandage, they are only good for a certain amount of blood - however, if you have that much blood falling out you might not be best placed to use the second one!
(Blatant plug time... my new updated first aid quick reference cards are out...
Ok then, here is an updated version with more sections:

As always, comments and suggestions welcome. Remember this is designed as an addition to your training, not a replacement.
Whatdoyathink?
Thanks for your help Gunslinger - don't worry about the rant, I can see why. It is not nice to be hijacked - especially when it is commercial spamming. £200 seems a bit steep per person, and if you look on his site the photos show his guys doing stuff wrong anyway :-p
I would love to go ahead with the course, but with only 3 people I think the venue hire is going to be a bit much split between them. If they are happy with this, then I am still happy to run the course (and it would still be great value).
Otherwise, lets open this up to friends and other...
OK - only 3 people so far - a bit thin on the ground!
Is anyone else interested? If so, please say now!
Otherwise, seeing as the three that are already interested have some basic training, shall we do some other stuff?
Here is a link to some possible dates:

Ideally I would like to do the course over two days as this allows for more time and practical scenarios. I know that might not fit everyone though, so - would you like this to be a starter for one day (with a...
Ideally we would want an area out of the way of the kids if we were going to use this.
Naturally I already hold an enhanced CRB, but feel it would be unfair to expect everyone who comes on a course to hold one too!
Been busy with work this last week, but now back!
Are people looking for a weekend in March, or later in the year?
@TeeDee: do you have a connection / contact with Ashclyst forest? This sounds like a great location.
Following on from Sniper's offer to put on a bushcraft first aid course up there, I'm happy to put on one down here!
I know 3 people are already interested. A good maximum is 10-12, but if only 3-4 turn up then that is fine too!
Does anyone have any good ideas for a venue? I'm in Exeter...
