How To Make A Hammock Pod

No condensation, yes it's breathable, but I added a window with a bit of mozzie net that was spare to make sure. For the mozzie net version I used a mozzie and insect net that's meant for use as garden screen to stop insects getting to your plants. But it's very soft and light so it worked well...

    Some hammock advice please.

I bought mine from ticket to the moon, their king sized are designed to sleep more then one person, there's enough material for me to lay diagonally and wrap the rest right over me and hang down the sides, it's huge. And comes in camo.

How To Make A Hammock Pod

For anyone who is thinking of making one of these, just an update that it's kept me warm and dry for the last year and a half and it's still going strong! Wouldn't make any changes if I did it again, it's done a cracking job.

    Out testing new hammock/tarp/pod set-up

Ok, just did some notes and explanation of how I did this, it's located here; http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92466&p=1114317#post1114317 Also, I've done a mozzie version, and as you can see you can go back to basics and have nothing on the hammock as you've not actually sewn...

How To Make A Hammock Pod

I wanted a way that I could make a pod for my hammock, that didn't have any drafty joins, wasn't attached permanently to my hammock (So I could use it in hotter climates as the standard hammock), and kept me warm underneath like an under-quilt does. After a few ideas, I thought the way that...

    Out testing new hammock/tarp/pod set-up

I'm just writing a little tutorial at the moment, I'll offer a video of my pod in more detail next time I'm out and can set it up and do a video to show some more detail and ideas I've done. Thanks for all your interests.

    Out testing new hammock/tarp/pod set-up

Lol, yes it's been a while since we had a long period of the blue stuff. No I don't need the tarp other than to stop things from above hitting me and also it cuts out the wind from the sides hitting my pod, just extra comfort again really. It's all so small and light, carrying the tarp is no hassle.

Yes, I made it a bit longer than needed so when I'm in, and I pull the shock cord tight, I get a warm air bubble underneath my hammock.

    Out testing new hammock/tarp/pod set-up

Ah yeah, this is my pod. I go over to India every year, and don't need extra weather protection so I didn't want to sew anything to my hammock at all. But in the UK I go every couple of weeks regardless of weather, I've been in strong winds this year, snow, sideways rain etc. Learning from...

    Out testing new hammock/tarp/pod set-up

That's true, we try to stick to pathways within the camp so as to just wear a thin path, not walk all over the place and trample it all down. Also, you can't see in this picture, forgot to mention in first post, added shock cord round the bottom of my pod so when I'm in I can pull it closed and...

Yeah just a bit of comfort/ground preservation, I know it's not essential but I hate leaving a boggy patch behind when it's been raining.

    Out testing new hammock/tarp/pod set-up

Old bit of tarp, multi-purpose for laying on outside when the grounds a bit damp but nice enough to catch some rays. In the pic its underneath the hammock so I could put my rucksack on it when I got there and wasn't using it and have something dry to step on when I got out the hammock as we had...

    Out testing new hammock/tarp/pod set-up

Yeah that's right, certainly helps, it's nice and quiet too so it's nice for longer trips too. I was in a rush the other day and missed some kit, it wasn't too much hassle to nip back and get it. A couple of shots from outside the permission...
