Ridgeline Monsoon Elite, anyone use one?

I've had a monsoon elite smock for a few months now. It's teak (sort of muddy off brown) I think it's a fairly unobtrusive drab sort of colour and enables you to blend into the landscape well enough. So far it's kept the weather out very well. It warms up rapidly if I'm walking briskly for 10...

    wild camping in cannock chase?

A word to the wise, take care on the chase as poachers have been known to use firearms or crossbows while after deer and the like...just so as you know.

Bushcrafty books that also tell a gripping story........?

I like Stephen King's 'The Girl Who loved Tom Gordon', also an older story by Algernon Blackwood 'The Wendigo'. Here:http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/10897. The Wendigo is very bushcrafty-portages, birchbark canoe, wilderness all around...but it is a supernatural tale, as is King's. Enjoy if...

Saw two bats at about 5:50 this evening...is that a spring indicator?

    Fear of the dark

Hello Zarkwon, nice of you to reply so early in the morning. Bering's article is a good one, but I never was convinced by the infinite regress. Sure, there's a causality behind all things going back to the big bang. Cause and effect are a given (unless you know about an uncaused cause!) but...

    Fear of the dark

Sorry, just a quick question regarding Zarkwan's post #148. 'Belief in free will' and 'debunking that one'. Please expand just a little more, but don't get too heavy, I haven't read philosophy for about fourteen years! Regards. JDCP.

    Prossibly a silly question?

Have you thought about Yellow wood ? You might be able to use that site. Paul, the chap who runs it is a good bloke and may allow building of debris shelters...but you'd have to check obviously. Just a thought. Regards. JDCP

Place to camp out near Brecons?

Try Yellow wood, bushcraft adventures. I've stopped there several times, owner is a good bloke, woods are nice quiet secluded, you can spit on the Black mountains from there. Hope its of use. Regards.

    Unusual encounters in the wilderness

Haven't got any supernatural recounts (want to believe...But I don't...for now). However, sometimes on a Sunday I meet some friends in a local, we all walk so we can drink & not drive, obviously. My walk (alone) takes me about 2 miles through mature woodland near the edge of Cannock Chase...

    Early spring where you are?

I just photographed a Peacock butterfly in the back garden...unfortunately I'm too thick to figure out how to stick it on this post (the photo not the butterfly).

    woodland campsites

Woodstock, I used this place a while back. It's good. The chap who owns the woodland is quite easy going and approachable. I only stopped for one night due to time constraints, but will visit again sometime. The location is a little hard to find, and is situated away from main roads...
