Here's the picture - where I work there is a policy where the boss and I are not on annual leave at the same time in order to have a member of management on site most of the time.

A couple of months ago when me and stooboy decided to go to the moot i checked to see if she was off and low and behold she was, she then moved all her leave days to next week meaning that the only conflicting day was Friday 1st August.

Now considering that I only work a half day on a Friday I didn't think this would be a problem - turns out it was and she couldn't/wouldn't shift this day. Not wanting to travel all the way down and not be able to come for the whole event (plus it would mean stooboy arriving very late) I decided that I just leave it this time and go to the next.

Now I felt fine about this but everyone seems so excited about going ive started to get all jealous!!

And to cap it all off she has now just announced that she doesn't think she will take this Friday off after all !!!!!!

So this thread is for the people not going to the moot. (sob!)

I shall be taken the missus to see the batman movie on Friday ( i hate this stuff but she loves the comic book stuff) and then we will be going out for a meal at a nice wee French place we like, followed by fighting with SkyTV on Sunday when they come to add new boxes and whatso.

Although all this does gain me some Brownie Points to get out the weekend after :)

So what is everyone else doing?

ps - I hope you guys all have a great time - everyone except stooboy who i believe should have shown some commaradary and taken the approach of "no mate, if your not going then I'll give it a miss too". - just kidding Im sure it will be awesome! :)

I'm not going either - we will be visiting family around the Maidstone area next week.

The Dad's are taking the kids camping, leaving the Mum's to pamper themselves (Brownie points earned, banked and allocated to a night in the woods when we get home!). So, can anyone recommend a good bushy type campsite for 2 grown men and 4 kids under 10 in the Maidstone area? Or even just a campsite that allows open fires?

Heres hoping!

Simon

PS Hope you all have agreat time at the Moot! :beerchug: Have a drink for me!

No moot for me either, we (the family) all go on a bushy type camping holiday on first weekend in August down to a little quiet spot on Dartmoor.

Have fun at the moot everyone.

Just wanted to say that although I am going to the moot I wish everyone not going all the very best. I urge you to give the folks who are going a real hard time when we come back - catching up with 100s of posts from you folk! :lmao:

There's nothing wrong with brown tap water. It's just the lovely peatiness which gives the whisky its distinctive character. The village I grew up in had lovely brown peaty water until they built a new housing development and all the incomers complained - now it tastes like a swimming pool.

I won't be at the Moot either - depending on the progress of my current batch, I may end up brewing again...

Yes and no. Park your car outside Boxley chruch and head off into the North Downs (it's about a half mile walk, uphill). It's not a campsite, so what you'll be doing is a bit of 'wild camping', but it's a great place to go that will give you a good view across the weald. As you head uphill out of Boxley you will do a left hand bend after about 300-400 yards, then after about another 200-300 yards you will do a right hand bend. On this bend is a left hand pathway. Head down there and choose your spot. That's where we often go. As you head down that pathway you will have woods to your right and a line of trees to your left, with fields behind that. After about 200 yards the woods on your right will give way to a sheep field with an iron gate. There is a stye next to the gate. Go over that. Directly in front of you, about 100 yards, is a tree that affords a type of canopy. This tree is on the edge of the woods that you have been walking by - so don't look for an individual tree. Go over another stye and there you are! It's a cracking spot that creates a natural camp spot. There is only one way in (the stye), and no one goes anywhere near the place, so you don't have to worry about members of the public. Enjoy.
Oh yes, the picture in my avatar was taken at that very spot!

i'm not going. however me and Seraph spent three days at the Big Tent stewardship festival last weekend which was a lot, a lot of fun. Its based in an incredibly beautiful and biodiverse place and is all about the environment, traditional crafts and traditional music.

I'd recommend it to anyone who visits this forum.

Thanks Durulz, but brother in law and his kids are novices and will be looking for facilities! But I will remember the spot for me and SWMBO!

Hi Simon
You could try this place, just over the border in East Sussex, probably 40 minutes to an hour from Maidstone. They allow fires and dogs. I'm going there this Friday for a few days.

Well, I pondered it a bit, but half a continent and an ocean away was just a tick too far to go. Plus the travel costs would be a major percentage of my annual income. So I shall not be attending.

I'll just have to walk the 100 yards down to the cold water trout stream and dangle my toes in the water to ... console myself.

Have fun, and don't forget to learn from all the little failures in the classes. They're the most fun and educational.
