Litter louts - gotcha!

In the fields where I walk the dogs there is a beech tree where groups of youths (and I've seen them, so not just blaming youths for no reason) congregate to light fires & drink. The fires I can live with but the broken glass, cans and plastic bags infuriate me.

Yesterday the mess was especially bad but amongst the litter there was a Tesco receipt. The toe-rags had paid with a Clubcard. A swift email to the police later and as a result they will be getting a visit from the PCSO...

For over a year. Icontinued to clear away the remnants of bunfires in our local woodland, scattering the remains of half burnt wood and ashes over a wide area. I also collected thirteen bin bags of broken bottles and litter between one easter and another. Fortunately those responsible gave up before I did. This problem seems to have resolved itself so my persiverance seems to have paid off. I suppose that this summer's weather has helped. The local headmistresswas of no help in this matter at the local high school, but she has been replaced by a new headmaster, who has tightened up on littering in general, lets hope that things continue to be resolved.

Just met with the PCSO and her supervisor (a proppa coppa!) at the litter site and they confirmed they had an address and would get the miscreant to clean it up... Bring back birching, I say!!

So the worst they can expect, on the rare occasions they are caught is to have to clear up one lot of litter.

Well that will really deter the rest won't it.

Good work on the evidence - shame that it wasn't worth the effort really

you could always spice it up a bit and find some used hypodermic and add them to the mix and just hope they get pricked......or is that too evil?

Probably - but a couple of hundred hours of community service picking up litter would be proportional

I've never had a litter lout on any of the projects that I've set up... if I had of then they would have certainly been clearing litter and worse up

Thanks for the really unhelpful comment. We don't burn people in wicker men in this part of the country - how else would I deal with it without ending up with a criminal record of my own?

hmmm... I am reminded of a cartoon where a couple of animals bring and start spreading leaves etc. inside a fly tippers home. Which really freaks him out, for obvious reasons...not of course that I would ever dream of doing such a horrible thing, nor am I advocating it. just food for thought...honest....

So when did the police gain the authority to hand out punishments? I thought that was the job of the courts after due process or are the police taking the law into their own hands again instead of just enforcing the law they are given.

I recall when they would catch a thief and beat them into permanent injury as it was less trouble and more fun than filling in all those forms. I thought those days had long gone.
