I've just updated the thread to show the finished product if anyone's interested in how it turned out. I'm very pleased with it, going to test it out tomorrow.

Yep :) That was the desired result. Feels good to put a little effort in and make it look the way I want it.

Would rather have completely got rid of the GENUINE HICKORY that was stamped into the helve though. But I didn't want to sand it down too much...

Thanks, yeah I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. Haha, perhaps I should go into business :)

It seems to perform well, I don't have much experience with using an axe so I don't have anything to compare it to though. I had a go at this this with it and it worked out alright. Could do with being a bit sharper though.
