Stitching Pony

I have been thinking about investing in a stitching pony but the cheaper ones look a bit flimsy and the other more substantial ones are a bit pricey as it is only a hobby for me. Your comments or advice would be appreciated, I would be prepared to have a go at making one if I could find a pattern.

Used properly it's an incredibly useful tool for holding leather pieces together while freeing both hands for stitching.
A friend who's a saddle maker taught me to stitch leather using the much longer clamps, like these.

Not hard to build your own....and a lot cheaper to make than buy.

I made one like no 3 in the links above, very useful when stitching, I dont use a nut and bolt to tension it, just a couple of heavy duty elastic bands.

Or you could buy one for £11.24 from Le Prevo leathers in Newcastle. For that price it was not worth making one myself.

Probably need to be serious about leather to purchase one, but they do look amazingly well made.
