A friend of mine dropped me off some birch for carving , the wood was cut when green and I've had it for a couple of months .
I cut myself a piece and when I split the piece open to make a kuksa and this is what I found .
This is a stain from chainsaw bar lube that has migrated up about 8'' of wood .
