Hi, I'm considering joining a local shotgun club that specialise in shooting rabbit and wood pigeon.my motivation would be to gather sustainable wild meat for the table. However, I've read that shotguns shouldn't be used as they can puncture the gut and bladder and make the meat unfit for consumption. Is this true? Is it okay to hunt wood pigeon with a shotgun if you intend to eat what you shoot? If shooting rabbits for food is it better to use an air rifle?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

No mate. Everybody does it and you have nothing to fear. Getting together with a bunch of guys with more experience sounds like a fab start.

Do not get stitched up for lots of money though!
