SWMBO has recently discovered heritage/heirloom tomatoes from a local posheli (posh deli :p) and am wondering if instead of constantly buying hem if there was an easy way to scoop out the inners/seeds and save them for homegrowing, anyone got experience with this? BR?

You rang sir?

Oh yes, there is a way

Always start with the nicest fruit - not the one that's "spare"

1) Cut the tomato in half

2) With a teaspoon scoop out all the seeds and gloop into a glass

3) Cover seeds and gloop with 2" of tap water

4) Cover glass with kitchen roll and secure with a laggy band.

5) Put somewhere warm (windowsill on a radiator etc.)

6) Each day remove "lid" and stir well

7) After about 3 days the goo will have fermented and floated off forming a scum

8) Pour of scum

9) Drain seeds though a sieve

10) Spread seeds to dry on a plate covered with kitchen roll

11) Put plate for drying somewhere warm, move seeds about every day for about a week (two is better)

12) When seeds are totally dry, store in a paper envelope

That's it really

No worries - it actually ferments so if you cover with cling film, poke a small hole in it (it gives off gas) !
