I recycled/re-purposed some nice hard and flat oak flooring end cuts into some strops , they made for a nice size of 12" x 3.5"
No need to make these double sided because these off pieces are scrap and plentiful .
I've got some 18"x2" end cuts that I will make later after I shape a handle , I'll have to use a router because it does not work well with hand tools due to the hardness .
I'll have to see if there's a market for strops on this side of the pond and compete against these http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=32999&cat=1,43072 .
