Ray Mears/Tracks apple cake recipe

Evening all.
Years ago when Tracks was on BBC2 Ray did an Apple cake useing crab apples. Can any one remember this recipe. I have spent ages looking and trying to make it from memory but with no luck. I have even tried the woodlore website but got no reply.

I vaguely remember something like that. If my memory serves me correctly it was 1 part milk powder, 2 parts self raising flour, a handful of diced crab apples, a few of whatever berries are available and as many wild strawberries as you can find. At least, that is the recipe I used after watching the program ( I was only 7 at the time, but my daddy helped ), and it was delicious.

cooking crab apples removes the 'craby-ness' (tart-ness) so they just become like any other apple. you won't need to treat them any different.

yup there is. both items are dealt with in one of the first series factsheets (i'm guessing its only the first series ones i've got - bugger)

ps. i don't think country tracks was the same as tracks in which ray only made his weekly cameo - correct me if i'm wrong tho)

It was #22 on the first list below....it was a bannock with crab apples and beechmast IIRC (autumn so can't remember wild strawberries) plus rosehip tea
