That will do fine as long as you do t go too large on the hooks. There are loads of great books on fly patterns.

I currently have a 9'6 5/6# which prefers a 6 so im going to play with that before buying anything else. The apparent simplicity but relatively high price of salty flies is pushing me over the edge!

I have fished in the sea with 5/6 wt line an it's fine, saltwater fly fishing in the UK your not likely to catch much of any note and the 6wt would handle it fine.

Plus catch a bass on it and it feel's like a tarpon :)

Thanks for the tips guys. Its going to be a soft launch to my sea fly fishing career and a mackerel would be an absolute result. I picked up two little sand eel patterns to start with... Will let you know how i get on. I'm on the Isle of White this week, Gower and Pembrokeshire late August so fingers crossed.
