Natural glue

I've just been reading Jon's Bushcraft tutorial on birch tar http://www.jonsbushcraft.com/birchtar.htm
Now am I remembering correctly that you can make a similar glue from resin off a cedar tree sp and adding ash to temper it's brittleness.
If so any url's references would be appreciated

At the bottom of this page http://www.woodcraftwanderings.org/cordage_1.html#Glue there is a section on making glues. I have made some glue sticks a couple of days ago with equal portions of pine resin, bees wax and powdered charcoal. I have not used it yet so can't tell you how well it works, but it certainly stick to my fingers!!!

A bit of a random spin off but have found that rice glue works surprisingly well as a backing for large areas of fabric. Just boil down the rice until it is really overly soft. Gives an inherent starchy strength once set. I used it to re-cover a very cheap Kuchri that had a faux leather covering. Then waxed the fabric to render it waterproof.
