Metal Poles

Hi all

I'm looking to try and knock up some cheap and simple tarp tent type thigs over the winter with our scouts. One thing we do need is a source for metal type tent poles - and possibly some ridge bits. Given that these will be shelters rather than sleeping tents I am looking for ones around 6 foot high.

Obviously cost is a major consideration.

Have tried various tent manufacturers for spares/old stuff but no joy from general emails.

Anyone got any suggestions

Have you considered using the extendable poles for washing lines? They are strong, have hooks on the end for holding line and can be raised or lowered to the right height.

I got some of these from this seller... very sturdy and as they're in 2 foot sections, you can have 8 foot, 6 foot, 4... or whatever.

They say they have lots of them so you may be able to negotiate a price for a quantity of them.

Argos used to sell extendable poles for holding up washing lines, and they can't be hugely expensive - any good?

Id go to your local metal recycler and ask to browse round his aliminium bin.

People often throw away old tents and the frames end up there
