So after a couple of years trying to find a Blacksmith that could do our design we finally found one last July. Took the log to them so it he could get started and then after a couple of weeks, just before he was due to start, the Blacksmith did his back in. Anyway, recieved the phone call out of the blue saying it was ready for collection.

Really impressed with it. The wood is from an old apple tree my late father planted some 45 years ago. This came down in a storm and I though it would make a good bench.

A really sentimental piece of furniture that should last for quite a few years. I did the wood but don't have the skills to do the metal work hence the need of a blacksmith.

Thats outstanding - it is very lovely and would cost you a fortune in a gallery. Hell that much seasoned fruit wood would cost a mint. Elegant, simple, stylish.

I love it.

Thanks for the comments, it's much appreciated!

I wanted to keep the wood as light as possible so no stain was used only a clear Danish oil and then a coating of furniture wax to at least give it some protection.

That's the nicest thing I've seen for a good while; a perfect and stunning example of "less is more".

Really nice, very organic and very reminiscent of Arts & Crafts metalwork. Thanks for showing us.

I have to agree with everyone else here, that's a really special piece. The metal complements the wood nicely and vice-verse.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you go about stripping all the bark off the log? Draw-knife, or something else?
