If you are interested in doing this sort of thing outdoors with kids you might want to look at www.sharingnature.com Its the site of a guy called Joseph Cornell who has written quite a few books on the subject and runs great inspirational courses.
Sharing the Joy of nature
Listening to Nature
Journey to the heart of Nature - This is the basis for the John Muir Award scheme
Don't be put off by the slightly 'tree-hugging' feel. Kids love his stuff and he is a great guy :)

Great link
I love listening to these sounds and have often thought of getting a few dvd's to play with forest sounds on. I find something warming about being able to listen to them whilst indoors or should i say whilst comfortable and warm. The thunderstorm one is very good as is the rain.
Ever since hearing a trance cd with whale songs on it several years ago i have kept my eye out for whale songs on their own, not dolphin clicking but the mysterious whale.
Has anyone got a link?

I just googled whale sounds to see what would happen...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=whale+sounds&meta=

The first link http://www.whalesounds.com/ shows promise, although
if I'm entirely honest with you I can't really tell the difference between
whales and rusty gates at the moment  They are hypnotic though.

I've been listening tonight to the soundtrack of a programme about
the BBC Radiophonic workshop so I might have maxed out my
quota for bleeps and bloops today :)

I bought one of their albums once on the recommendation of a friend and it
was a bit heavy going; I don't think it was the whale one though which might
be a bit more relaxing. Perhaps I should try that one instead!

Happy birthday for the other day by the way.
