Looks like a female Tegenaria domestica to me... happy to be corrected though.
Thanks for the reply - I've just been googling images of that - so many different shapes and markings for one species - what are the key indicators to look for?

The spiders I think of as a "house spider" don't have such a rounded back end (technical term! :))

It is an Amaurobius, either A. fenestralis or A. similis. the two species are indistinguishable in the field. T. domestica would have spinnerets that are visible from above, which this doesn't, and much longer legs.

No obvious features on this one apart from the squat shape and distinctive (to my eye) abdoninal patter with that dark area at the front surrounded by a paler ring, and then chevron at the back. The most distinctive thing about these is their web, which is a scruffy collar of silk around a hole in a wall or on tree bark or bushes.
