I wanted a hook knife for carving bowls etc and strapped for cash I contacted a riding supplies company and bought a "hoof knife" for £3.50 plus the postage...after receiving the knife I heated the blade and refomed it, then tempered and hardened it and hey presto I have a hook knife of my own making for less than a third of the price of a ready made item....

Always good to see other peoples way of thinking around a situation goodjob .

I liked this blurb on their site 'The double sided hoof knife is a useful addition to a first aid kit' - a somewhat unusual way of looking at it :lmao: .

Not bad at all, needed a lot of sharpening to get the edge good but now its fine...thinking of buying another with a one sided blade as it might last a bit longer...they also sell one slightly larger which would be good for taking the main wood off then finish off with the smaller of the two.
