I spotted this fungi, growing from an old dead tree the weekend and was hoping that someone could I.D it for me please. Sorry that the photo is poor quality

Not too sure, it's some sort of bracket fungus, looks like a maze gill?.

om not at all good on this kind if stuff yet but it looks a bit a dead/dying and old VELVET SHANK if it is it is edible but DO NOT take my advice as im not 100% sure

Definitely not velvet shank - velvet shank is a much smaller mushroom, which grows in clumps and has very obvious stems with a velvety coating on them:

Some kind of bracket fungus - but I'm not too hot on them (don't usually fall into the 'tasty and worth collecting' bracket :rolleyes: )

just thought it could be ive seen a few oldish rotting velevets looking like that but like i said not very good at this stuff what do you reckon looks like few diffrent brackett fungi
