The illunminated colour is more pink than the picture shows. 
It is electroluminescent wire. All sorts of things can be done with it. Probably everything you could want to know about it is here:

Surelight seem to be reducing the range of bits for you to do your own thing with, so I ended up buying from here:

I've got some of the Surefire stuff, Tesco's were selling it in sets as bike light a year of two back. I have red and blue wire great for Halloween ect'
Now this would be handy to fit on your tent when you want to find it in the dark ...
Steve one of the sets I modified to use as red warning lights (on a very slow flash) twisted round our family tents corner guy ropes works great to stop folks walking into them
