Made a knife from an old file.

7 Inches overall 4 inch handle 3 inch blade.

Think i will give it to my daughter, either this one of another smallone I am working on.

The scales are cocobola and made the leather pouch sheath.

Cool, Though how are are the scales fixed?

Epoxied on.

I tempered the file down by placing it in the oven at 400 for two cycles of 1 hour.

It took out the brittlness but has left it hard enough I can't drill through the handle for pins.

I have made shavings and notches with it in some dry oak and the edge didn't roll. I haven't batoned with it, but with only a 3 inch 1/8th thick blade not sure I would want to.
