Sorry but stout boots are a must, hiking shoes/trainers dont work. You are going over a LOT of uneven ground , rubble etc with a lot of debris, the boots will protect your feet and help stop you turning an ankle.

A helmet of some sort is a very good idea, there'll be lots of faling debris even after the quake and aftershocks settle. a climbing helmet (petzl ecrin rock or vertex is what most rescue teams use if they arent using specialist equipment), dust mask, gloves, eye protection all very usefull.

A good torch or headtorch will be usefull and as would a compass or GPS unit. City's look COMPLETELY different after being hit by a quake, even the local have problems identifying where they are.

The other thing to remeber that after an earthquake looters are dealt with VERY harshly by the police, that's if the property owners havent got to you first.

When walking keep your wits about you, look around , espceially up and ALWAYS look for a way out, the way you would run if another aftershock comes.. plan ahead and think clearly about what moves you make before you make them....moving around in earthquake zones is danmgerous business, what loks solid isn't and the slightest touch can bring buildings literally down around you.

Nice!

:lmao:

Well done I liked that.

I'm still putting little things together.
Quite addictive, always tinkering and changing what I have.

I can see why those survivalist types
go overboard on it all.
It's actually fun to do, sad or what?

Thanks for all the input fellas.

Best regards, John.

You say you leave your shoes and suit at work? I'd do the same with a good pair of boots, ever seen some-one wearing trainers on a building/demolition site. Think what all of the rubble is going to consist of. One other thing to remember, in a big quake what the streets look like now isn't what they'll be like afterwards. Will you be able to navigate with none of the recognisable features that you're used to now
