Would water lily leaves be safe to cook food in?

They can be very large and real thick and could be ideal to replace thin foil as a natural wrapping when roasting food in the ashes the a fire. Ive already tried this with dock leaves with moderate success. But water lilies are far larger and might resist burning somewhat longer.
Has anyone used water lilies leaves for this purpose?

I think (not sure!) some parts of the water lily can be eaten (the unopened flowers or seeds)

well as the roots are listed as edible then the leaves although indigestable should prove safe. you could use them as an outer wrap for smaller leaves just in case maybe :)

so one will help your bowels the other a hyperactive sex drive then? :D

so from what I understand going by those links it would be okay to use the leaves for cooking as the bulk of any toxins are in the roots and flowers so anything which did leech out would be minimal and on the outside.
