Hi All,

Knowing that quite a few of you paddle and that I'm keen to get back in to this in a canoe (previously had kayaks). Have small budget (blimey these things are expensive !!!) and wanted your opinion on a couple

This one can also be bought in kit form for £350 (maybe slightly less with a marked one)

Or is this one worth it with the damage

Other advice greatly accepted - my budget would stretch to about £400 but that would need to include paddles.

Am I too hopeful !!??

I'd quite fancy the DIY jobby. The problem with buying damaged canoes is the fact that the sellers opinion on the damage may be very different from yours once you buy it. Plus there may be other problems that are unseen that may arise in the future.

That kit canoe is an Apache Canoe. I have owned two of them both the 15' and the 16' and they are fantastic canoes. This dealer on the ebay is not the guy who makes them. the chap who makes them is called Stu or Regbella as he is known on song of the paddle, I don't know if he is a member here or not. However, he has an offer to Sotp members at the moment (possibly here?? I dunno) so if your not already a member go take a look. Many people here are also members of sotp. The customer services is second to none and you will not be dissapointed, he'll even finish the boat for you if you pay a bit more.

However, think about the type opf canoeing you want to do - Flatwater? this boat is perfect. Whitewater, well some people use these boats for that purpose ocasionaly but they are glass fibre and don't take hard knocks as well as plastic.

The traveller you you are looking at, well looks a little tired but could be O.K. I,ve never tried one but I have geard really good things about them.
