Blacksmith skills

My daughter in law has just finished a sculpture course and wants to learn more about working with metal. In particular, she wants to learn blacksmithing skills including welding etc. and yes she does know the difference between a blacksmith and a farrier.

Like most of us, she doesn't have much money and hopes to trade general work around the forge in exchange for tuition- sort of intern arrangement.

If anyone can help, or knows someone who can, in the Oxford area she and I would be grateful.

oldtimer, I have been eyeing up a small gas powered forge on ebay that's going for about £45 could eb a starting point for her workshop if you want the link.

Good luck to her, that could be a career with more of a future than she may imagine. My great grandfather was a farrier, I often wish the family had kept to that trade.

No worries mate. I bought it recently as i'm starting smithing as a hobby, very useful book for a beginner and i expect a decent reference book for the intermediate

That's made the price shoot up to over a ton

I'm pleased to hear that , as shoeing without a licence, etc can lead to the Pleasure of stopping at her Majesty's hotels.

You are allowed to remove shoes and trim your own horses feet, just not allowed to put shoes on.
