Well why don't you just pick which one you feel most 'connected' to? It would be a personal choice then?
Hazel is a useful tree and its also the celtic tree of wisdom, Peter_t, so don't be disheartened

Was going to say the same, I went looking for a bit of Ash but found the Oak or more to the point it found me Its got a nice feel, its going to make a lovely staff
