Whilst out tidying the garage I found an old billhook in a box. It was filthy, pitted and quite rusty where it wasnt painted. I have cleaned it up and removed 90% of the rust and it is looking a whole load better.

It will need a new handle and thats no problem. Any advice on wood would be appreciated. Think that ash is traditionally used. Is that right?

Also do you think I should remove all the paint that is on it and if I do should I repaint it or leave it as is. The paint is some kind of thick protective stuff a bit like hammerite.

Thanks, Tim

Ash is good. - They don't get the same shock as an axe or hammer so you could probably use just about anything.

Fruit woods are nice.
