Hello :)

My Uncle died recently and I found this knife in his garage while sorting stuff out.
Just wondered if anybody knew anything about it, as its quite unusual

Cheers,
Fionn

Here's a very similar one: http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d-221724/baron-deer-foot-sheath-knife-solingen-c-1950--rare.html says it's from the 50s.

I wouldn't think that it formed part of a cutlery set - this site has a similar knife described as a German WWII boot knife - http://www.warhelmets.com/ and this a hunting knife - http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290659996988

That company seems to have made a lot of hunting/bowie style knifhttp://vintageyukata.info/solingen-germany-1/es - http://vintageyukata.info/solingen-germany-1/

Good finds mercurykev, you've been busy goodjob

I did suggest that it might be part of a cutlery set as although solingen was/is a well known knife maker the affix Baron was used mostly on export cutlery.........I'm not sure they could take any hard use, the tang & handle attachments don't look too solid........rare they be but don't appear to be valuable judging by the sold price of the first link..:(
