Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
When We moved into our new house I found an old axe head in the garage. Wasnt in the best condition, blunt rusty and generally unloved. Gave it a clean and put an edge back on it and have recently just finished a scratch built handle which started as a log..

Anyway some pics

Gave it a rub down with wire brush and some wet and dry. Wanted to keep some if it's character so didn't go OTT took an edge quite quickly mind you I did use works slow grinder which helped!

Handle was made from a log which I split and made a plank using a froe. S

Handle shape was drawn roughed out using hand axe. Once rough shape was achieved I used draw knife and shave horse.

Once handle was about right I used a spoke shave to round off the edges and to give the handle a better finish.

Wedge was made from a scrap piece of hand wood.

The axe eye was very narrow and slightly off centre which was a challenge.

I've really enjoyed making it and learnt a lot especially as it was my first ever attempt at making a handle from scratch.
