Don't shoot the messenger here please, but as someone who has met/knows people with views somewhat contrary to yourselves, I think the common thoughts are more to do with socialistic views. Nothing against QE2 as an individual, but less favourable views of the crown and its lack of separation from the state...
An example given was state funded events etc etc, when the family have large portfolios of their own... I naturally pointed out the attractions for tourism, the common unity etc which bring folk of different walks together, but was rapidly dismissed...

I think as well during these toughish, times and future tougher forecast times, people look to/at the lowest earners and note disparaging differences... but again, when energy company directors, footballers etc are pointed out I was again dismissed... so yeh, maybe that gives you an insight, again don't shoot the messenger...

I started off by saying people have different opinions, and I accept that, but this was a thread offering condolences and respect for one very dedicated individual who has spent her life in our service; other opinions should be moved to a different thread if they have any relevance at all to this forum IMO.

I think you think of me something that I am not.

I'm not a staunch supporter or the Monarchy, and I'm neither that bothered by its existence - if we took it away what would we then have to hold in some resemblance of national esteem - our politicians ??? No thanks.

I'm relatively ambivalent to the existence of Monarchy however I think we would lose much without its presence.

I'm not even knocking you for saying what you've said - Charles is knocking on and yes you are right, its a lot of upheaval - I just don't see another available option to hand ( do you in all seriousness ) and in a thread that is basically set to acknowledge and mourn the loss of a long lived Queen I just thought your comment was somewhat misplaced and misjudged.

I can't say I would have wanted to have been born a Prince or a Princess... imagine the pressure with the world looking at you constantly - no thanks.

Perhaps I'll start with an apology for aby offence I may have caused, cwetainly not my intention.

Equally, I think my comments were taken the wrong way... My previous comment was merely answering a question of who or what reasons people have. But to have any disrespect towards her is pretty low. And I for one can't think of a suitable likeable alternative to the Monarchy!

I personally think she was an incredible servant to the country. Her passing really shocked me more than I'd expected it to.

My comments on this thread are purely an example of how naive I personally was to the entirety of our society as we known it. Perhaps I'm alone in my naivety

The upheaval is not something I think shouldn't happen, just surprise at how much is going to change, surprise due to naivety. Even at the most simplest form, I struggle not to say Charles, or Prince Charles... it's a position that he has held for my entire life, its a constant in my life. The Queen has always been the Queen, I think Boris Johnsons tribute hit home quite a lot, there was this unwavering figure that in some ways I never assumed would not be there.

That being said, I'll leave it at that and just read the many stories that you guys have about the incredible woman. The more the merrier.

The impact, as with any passing will come in waves. That “constant” is no more and it will take time for that to sink in.

We (the Brits) have a unique respect for our flag and monarch, the people who are willing to lay down their life for the flag are equally happy to wear it on a pair of underpants.

The shops in Windsor and London sell Queen masks, bobble heads and all manor of things adorned with her image. It’s a strange respect, but there is respect.

Over time buttons, badges, crests, letterheads will all change but it’s likely to be a gradual thing.

Soldiers will moan about it though, albeit in the usual British army respectful way.

I think you have the right of it.
The R.R. of Scotland was up half the night doing trial runs on their bit of the Edinburgh receiving/moving/lying in. It must be like a kicked beehive there.

You lot don’t have American pretenders to ‘royalty’ like
Kim Kardashian, Melania And her gruppenfuhrer sugar daddy The Donald. At least Charles knows how to dress like a man.
I deal with ‘ celebrities’ daily in California.
I find myself composing updates of The Lord High Executioners song from The Mikado as they remind me what ancient TeeVee show, edition of Playboy or dreary scandal they were in.

Although or perhaps because I am distantly related to most of them I don't care so much what the European royals are doing and even don't know the names of most of them.
But Charles was always visible, doing a very good job and surely was apart from his father the best known and internationally most respected man of his class and generation. You really can be glad to have him!
