Wayland, the first link does have a retail locator. When I typed in the UK, some online retailers were shown at the bottom of the page. Unfortunately, they were north american stores but some of them do ship to the UK. Sadly, shipping can be a killer.

Does anyone know the location of the course sites?

I'm looking into getting a decent map of the area.

I just feel lost without a map and compass.

Thank you.

I just like traditional style kit and this is an interesting chance to make some different kind of stuff.

I must admit I've been wishing for the opportunity to try it out so much I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the freak snowfall they had yesterday on Snowdon.

I started thinking about the ice fishing and asked around a bit on BcUSA for advice on putting a bit of kit together for it.

This is what I came up with.

The one piece of advice that came through consistently was that it is dark under the ice, especially if it is also covered with snow so anything that glows in the dark is useful for attracting the attention of fish.

Along with the usual collection of weights, leaders and hooks I’ve also included a few speed hooks for setting out at night, a hobo reel of strong fishing line and a net bag to use with a stone for a sinker.

Anyone think of anything else, not too heavy, to add?

In the woods if possible.

Maybe a few tiny glow-sticks would improve catches?

Right guys.

I've talked to Phil about using Rough Close for a pre trip meet up in January and there are a couple of options.

1. We could have an exclusive mini meet.

2. We could have our own little corner of a normal meet up (Would probably be the last full weekend in January)

3. We could be there at the same time as the normal meet up but have a different part of the site.

I can see advantages to option 2 but what do you think?

Thanks for organising this Gary : )

I can't say yay or nay at the moment as I'm hoping to be in Norway late Jan. If I'm in the UK, I'll be there. I won't know for a couple of months.

OK guys, this is the score.

Unless I get a stream of posts saying that it doesn't work for people I'm going to suggest we go for option two - Our own little get together at a regular meet up.

It'll keep cost down, be more convenient for Phil and the Rough Close crowd are a good bunch to socialise with anyway.

I'll give this a couple of days and then fix it with Phil, probably for the weekend of 28th /29th January 2012.

Just a quick heads up as well, Wickes are selling a long handled paint brush that I think will be good for getting snow off your kit before it melts in a warmer atmosphere.

All I've done to this one is add some rubber inner tube to cover the metal, shape the handle tip to a bit more of a chisel shape, add a bright lanyard with a luminous tip and then decorate it with some kolrosing.

I bought it with some other stuff but I think it was about £6.
