    1lb 3oz carving axe.

Here is my take on a small carving axe. The axe if made by the punch and drift method and is Hot punched and then Hand forged out of a solid billet of EN9 (1050) steel. I work with hand hammer , power hammer and power press. The blade is triple normalised and differentially hardened in oil...

    Keeping your knife sharp?

Like i said horses for courses, stropping doesnt take a long time maby one to 2 minutes and makes a diference (I know that a steel would take a few seconds) . Keeping your knife sharp?

a couple of things about sharp . there is more than one type of sharp . I have for years restored the edge cutting on kitchen knives by steeling one on the back of another . steeling is a great way of keeping a knife cutting and a course stone (say 320 or so) will sharpen a knife super...

    Keeping your knife sharp?

I use a strip of leather glued to a strip of 9mm ply .you can really put some pressure into the stropping and the plys flex helps slightly convex the edge (stropping with compound will convex the edge, more so on a loose belt less so on a backed board,we are talking micro convex here) I use...

    Blacksmithing rebar question

Graham oxley tool steels in sheffield are a good supplier, there are others . en42 is a great simple carbon steel to forge . New steel should be 3 to 5 quid a kilo fpr simple stuff, there are advantages to using known steels, however scrap steel is fun and does have a moral/eco advantage

    Bringing Knives/axes/saws Abroad

I would always wrap an axe or knives up as parcells with the contents written on the parcels ,not necesserily for the airlines but tools will go down better with police or transport police if made unusable in the imediate sense . I have taken axe etc to canada and no probs ,Have fun.
